as在英语语法教学中有很重要的地位,使用率高,用法复杂,在NMET中,它考查的频率很高,是要求重点掌握的教学内容。本文试就as作连词引导限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句、原因状语从句、时间状语从句、让步状语从句、as…as的常见句型及as作介词等方面的疑难用法作一粗浅分析研究,并结合近几年的各地高考英语试题进行链接讨论。一、as引导限制性定语从句(作关系代词)as引导限制性定语从句,常用于以下3个结构中,作主语、宾语、表语或状语等:①用于such…as 结构中, 例如:Such people as were mentioned by him were honest. (as作主语)I’ve never seen such a clever man as he is. (as作表语)【链接高考】These houses are sold at such a low price___ people expected. for 引导的从句只是提供一些补充说明,且不可位于主句前,这时,for前往往用逗号或分号与主句分开,引导的从句对主句加以解释; because表示直接的原因或理由,用于回答why ,语气最强,常译为“因为”; as表示十分明显的原因,语气较弱,as, since, because引导的从句可放主句前或后;例如:(1) Since you are ill, I will go alone.(2) The days were short, for it was now December.(3) I didn’t visit him because I wanted to borrow some books.(4) As it is snowing, we will not go to the city. 【链接高考】 Jenny was very sad over the loss of the photos she had shot at Canada,___ this was a memory she especially treasured. As B. if C. when D. where (2006年 广东卷)四、as引导时间状语从句(作连词)as与 while, when都是引导时间状语从句的从属连词,含义都是“当……的时候”。 但他们有区别:while表示的时间是一段,而不是一点, 所以while从句只能用持续性动词,主句的动作与从句的动作同时进行; 用when时,从句的动作可以与主句的动作同时发生,也可以发生在主句的动作之前,when从句可以用持续性动词或短暂性动词;as多用于口语中,强调“同一时间”或“一前一后”,有时还有“随着”的含义。例如:While he was eating his breakfast, he heard the doorbell ring.(强调吃饭的过程)When spring came, he felt like a trip.(强调两个动词同时进行)As he was going out, it began to rain.(强调两个动作紧接着先后发生)As spring warms the good earth, all flowers began to bloom. (as有“随着”的含义)五、as引导让步状语从句(作连词) as 与though, although, while 等都可以引导让步状语从句,含义为“虽然,尽管”,但他们有区别:though, although引导的从句可放主句前或主句后,主句中不能再用but, 但可以用yet, still, nevertheless,因为yet, still, nevertheless是副词,他们可使前后关系更明确; while 引导让步状语从句时,意为:“虽然,尽管”,常放在主句之前;as引导让步状语从句用倒装语序,结构为:adj./adv./n./v (原形) + as/ though + S. + V. 例如:Although journalism seems like a good profession, I would prefer to be a teacher.
